Abstract In this work we present the problem of obtaining and integrating numerically the hydrostatic equilibrium equations for a star with a polytropic equation of state, which is the well known Eddington model. In particular, we provide the parameters to obtain the corresponding model for the Sun. The treatment is geared towards first or second year physics students. An implementation of the integration algorithm is included.

Resumo En este trabajo presentamos el problema de deducir e integrar numéricamente las ecuaciones de equilibrio hidrostático para una estrella con una ecuación de estado politrópica, que es el conocido modelo de Eddington. En particular brindamos los parámetros correspondientes para obtener un modelo del Sol. El tratamiento está orientado a estudiantes de los primeros años de la educación universitaria en física. Se incluye una implementación del algoritmo de integración.

Abstract: New Massive Gravity is an alternative theory to General Relativity that is used to describe the gravitational field in a (2+1)-dimensional spacetime. Black hole solutions have been found in this theory, in particular an asymptotically anti-de Sitter rotating black hole. We analyse some features of this solution as its event horizon, black hole area and distance to the horizon, specially in the rotating extreme case, showing that they have shared features with extreme black holes in 4-dimensional General relativity. This limit case is interesting in the search of geometric inequalities as the ones found for the Kerr black hole in (3+1)-General Relativity.

Resumen: La teoría conocida como New Massive Gravity es una teoría alternativa a la Relatividad General y describe el campo gravitacional en un espacio-tiempo (2+1)-dimensional. Dentro de esta teoría, se han encontrado soluciones de agujeros negros, en particular, se han encontrado soluciones de agujeros negros rotantes asintóticamente anti-de Sitter. Se analizan algunas propiedades de estas soluciones como su horizonte de eventos, el área del agujero negro y la distancia al horizonte, especialmente en el caso rotante extremo, mostrando que comparten características con agujeros negros extremos en Relatividad general en 4 dimensiones. Este caso límite es interesante para poder hallar desigualdades geométricas como las que se han hallado para el agujero negro de Kerr en el contexto de la Relatividad General en dimensión (3+1).

Although it is considered that the electromanetic theory was born as a relativistic theory, this is seldom used in undergrad education when making the transition to the covariant four-dimensional formulation of electromagnetism. In this work we present a transition based on formal considerations arising from the three-dimensional equations of electromagnetism. This allows to motivate the transition, introduce notation and show that the equations take a more simple form and a more direct interpretation.

Si bien se considera que el electromagnetismo nació como una teoría relativista, esto usualmente no se explota en la enseñanza universitaria al realizar la transición a la formulación covariante tetradimensional del electromagnetismo. En este trabajo se presenta una transición basada en consideraciones formales que surgen de las mismas ecuaciones del electromagnetismo. Esto permite fundamentar la transición, introducir notación y mostrar que las ecuaciones toman formas más sencillas y de interpretación más directa.
